The best in the world. This is what AAU-Cph can now proudly say about their master’s programme in Lighting Design. Accompanied by the applause of 850 lighting design professionals, associate professor Ellen Kathrine Hansen entered the stage in Paris to be awarded the proof; a luminous statuette with the engraving 'Award for Education 2017, Aalborg University Copenhagen.' This took place at PLDC, the biannual congress for professional lighting designers from all over the world.
STILL A NEW PROGRAMME
'It is a fantastic recognition for us to receive this award from the international lighting design establishment just three years after the programme commenced in 2014. This gives us extra motivation to maintain our status as one of the absolute best lighting design programmes in the world,' says Ellen Kathrine Hansen who is head of the programme.
A SPOT-ON PROGRAMME
The three-year-old programme has enrolled in all 110 students of 25 different nationalities. It combines media technology, architecture and lighting technology – a combination which, according to Ellen Kathrine Hansen, is future proof:
'The mixture of professional competencies on the programme is spot on seen in relation to the current development in lighting design – primarily because of the technological development in dynamic lighting.'
FACTS:
- PLDC – Professional Lighting Design Convention takes place every other year. It brings together lighting designers, architects, researchers, universities, industry and clients on a common platform with focus on quality knowledge sharing and international networking opportunities. PLDC 2017 took place in Paris with 2300 participants from all over the world. www.pld-c.com
- The master’s programme in Lighting Design is the first of its kind in Denmark. Its combination of professional competencies within media technology, architecture and lighting technology is unique. Students enrolled in the programme hold bachelor’s degrees in architecture, design, media technology, building technology or electronics. The teaching is done by researchers within the three combined fields, while problem-based design projects are developed in groups across nationalities and competencies. www.light.aau.dk
